Lok Adalats to be held in Doon from April 23 onwards

With an aim to reduce pendency in the district courts, the Dehradun district legal service authority has planned to organize lok adalats in Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Chakrata and Rishikesh on April 23. The lok adalats would be organized on the directions of State Legal Service Authority (SLSA).

According to Kuldeep Sharma, secretary, district legal service authority, SLSA has issued directions to organize lok adalats in all four courts in Dehradun district.

The lok adalats will be held inside court premises and as per officials, litigants who are interested to get their pending legal matters solved through lok adalats can request the respective courts, where their cases are pending, to transfer their case to the lok adalats.

The lok adalats will take up cases involving civil suits, cheque bounce matters, motor accidents claims, family matters and excise matters.

As on March 1, 2016, there are around 79,991 pending cases, both criminal and civil, in the courts of Dehradun, Rishikesh, Chakrata and Vikasnagar. There are around 10,911 civil cases pending in the district courts, while 69,080 cases of criminal nature are also pending.
