To tackle any emergency situation that may arise due to heavy rain in the state, the disaster management department has positioned 17 search and rescue teams in nine vulnerable districts.

Each specialized team consists of six trained men headed by a chief instructor and is equipped with ropes, pulleys, first aid kits and other necessary items. The teams will remain at sensitive locations of the districts until September 30.

Piyoosh Rautela, executive director, Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DMMC), said, “The teams have been deployed to help district administration in dealing with any emergency during the monsoon season.”

The teams have been deployed in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora and Champawat districts. “All the teams are trained in search and rescue operations and fully capable of working during an emergency situation,” said Rautela.

Teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have also been stationed at vulnerable districts in the hills to address emergencies that may arise in case of heavy rain.
