Corbett to have “wall of shame” to curb irresponsible tourist menace

Any misdemeanor or unauthorised activity in the tiger famous Corbett Tiger Reserve can get a tourist a place in ‘Corbett Wall of Shame’.

Tourists often resort to erratic behaviour in a protected area like the tiger reserve without caring to follow the prescribed code of conduct and rules. The Corbett Tiger Reserve authorities have come up with this innovative way to check such erratic tendencies. Any case of violation of rules in the tiger reserve and the names of guilty tourists will now be mentioned on the reserve’s website under the section ‘Corbett Wall of Shame’ to identify them publicly. The effort is aimed at discouraging those elements who do not adhere to norms while visiting a wildlife area like Corbett.

Tourists usually come to the Corbett Tiger Reserve for entertainment and many a time indulge in activities that are anti-wildlife or against the norms. This is happening though the Corbett authorities inform them about do’s and don’ts in the reserve.

The bad behaviour on part of some tourists, who show scant respect for wildlife rules, not only causes disturbances to wild animals but also poses complications for the park management. This irresponsible behaviour by a few tourists invites bad publicity and unfortunately also a bad name.

The Corbett authorities have appealed to tourists to help them identify the irresponsible ones among themselves and bring to their notice cases of breach of the prescribed code of conduct or ethics.
