Uttarakhand government to provide subsidy to boost apple cultivation in the state

Uttarakhand government has duly implemented the new policy to promote the cultivation of improved varieties of apple in the state. Under this, the government will give subsidy of sixty percent of the cost on planting an orchard.

From two nali to 100 nali land, orchards can be planted individually or collectively. A target has been set to establish apple orchards of improved varieties in five thousand hectares in the state in the next eight years. Under this scheme, Rs 725.58 crore is to be given to farmers as subsidy.

Facilities will be implemented on very intensive cultivation of apple

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Secretary Deependra Kumar Chaudhary said that guidelines have been issued for the Apple Mission. These facilities will be applicable to very intensive cultivation of apple. The orchard can be planted in an area of two to 100 nali.

Orchards can be developed individually or collectively. Farmers will get two options to plant the crops. They can develop a orchard with the help of department approved companies or can plant a orchard themselves. Separate orders will be issued soon for the application process and annual target for setting up a garden.

There is immense potential for apple cultivation in Uttarakhand. While new improved species are developed in less time, they also yield more production. Apple farming is expected to create about 50 thousand new employment opportunities.
