1,633 polling centres finalised for 11 Assembly seats in Haridwar

The district administration has finalised polling booths for all 11 Assembly seats in the district for the next elections due early next year.

A total of 1,633 polling centres have been finalised and emphasis will be given on limiting the number of voters in rural segments to 1,200 and to 1,400 per centre in urban areas.

District Magistrate Harbans Singh Chugh told The Tribune that before finalising the voters’ list a mass awareness drive would be launched next month. “The voters’ list will get published by October 1, 2016, which will have January 1, 2017, as the eligibility criteria. Efforts are being made to ensure maximum number of people eligible for voting in the district are enrolled in the voters’ list,” said Chug.

A team of the Election Commission of India is to visit the state in the later part of next month. The District Magistrate said by September 15 the final lists of returning officers, polling centres in charge ,employees and vehicles would be finalised.

In the wake of the Election Commission team inspection, elaborate arrangements of power, water, toilet, ramp and security have been made at all polling centres.
