Foundation stone laid for Haldwani’s Ayush Center

50 bedded Ayush Hospital being built at a cost of Rs 10 crore

The foundation stone for Kumaon division’s first Ayush hospital was laid by state cabinet minister Indira Hridayesh in Haldwani on Saturday. The centre will be built at the cost of Rs 9.9 crore and will have a capacity of 50 beds.

The centre, which will provide allopathic medicines and ayurvedic medical facilities, is expected to be ready in 18 months.

“The hospital will provide ayurvedic, yoga, unani, siddha and homeopathic facilities, reducing the burden on mainstream institutions,” said Hridayesh.

Patients from various parts of Kumaon flock to Haldwani to seek treatment. The city has a district hospital, primary health centres, additional primary health centres, community health centres, state allopathic hospitals, two base hospitals and the only government medical college in the Kumaon division.

However, the condition of health services in the region remains dismal. Dr Sushila Tiwari Government Medical College and Hospital is running with just two super specialists. The medical college cannot provide vital check-ups for cardiac and neurology patients due to unavailability of sophisticated equipment.
