10 dead, 38 injured in bus accident in Daragadh

At least 10 people have been reported dead and as many as 38 injured as an overloaded private bus fell in a deep gorge near Daragadh on Tiuni-Chakrata route on Tuesday morning. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, where the condition of 15 has been stated as serious. Officials have not ruled out the possibilities of rise in the toll.

Around 9am, a 32-seater private bus left Tiuni for Dehradun. Against the seating capacity, the bus had 47 passengers on board and several heavy luggage was kept on top of the bus. About an hour later, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle and it fell into a gorge near Daragadh.

The locals informed revenue police officers about the mishaps. Getting the information, police teams from Vikas Nagar and adjoining areas too were rushed to the spot. With the help of locals, the passengers were brought out of the gorge in a rescue operation which lasted over four hours.
