Navjot Singh Sidhu launches new party “Awaaz-e-Punjab” ahead of Punjab elections

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has launched a new political party Awaaz-e-Punjab for the upcoming state elections in Punjab. India’s former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Punjab MLAs Simrat Singh Bains and Balwant Singh Bains are also part of the party. Earlier when Sidhu had left BJP there were talks that he would be joining the Aam Aadmi Party but that partnership failed to take place.

Sidhu, who had stunned everyone by resigning from the Rajya Sabha on the opening day of the Monsoon Session on July 18, has formed the party with former hockey captain Pargat Singh and Bains brothers.

The announcement of the new party is as surprising as Sidhu’s decision to quit Rajya Sabha.

Last month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that Sidhu had not put any pre-conditions on joining the AAP and needed time to think over the issue.

Reports had said that Sidhu wanted the AAP to project him as the chief ministerial candidate; however the party was reluctant to do so.
