3 people dead as car falls into Alaknanda river

A bank manager was among the three persons dead as their call fell in Alaknanda river from a height of over 200 metres in Rudraprayag district in the wee hours of Thursday. All three bodies have been fished out of the river and the police team also pulled out the car.

The three deceased were identified as bank manager of PNB Rahul Kumar, bank employee Amit Shah and ITBP jawan Pankaj Kumar. According to police, all three were in the age group of 20 to 30 and were on way back to their residences when the mishap occurred.

The bodies have been post to the district hospital. After the post mortem, the bodies would be handed over to the family members.

Station Officer Rudraprayag Ram Kumar Juyal said, “Prima facie it appears that the bank manager who was driving the vehicle lost its control at a steep bend.” He did not fail to mention that it was a narrow stretch of road at Ratuda where the mishap occurred on the Badrinath route.

“The broadening work of the turn was underway and going by the initial inputs it appears that it was a new vehicle and Kumar could not control it at the bend due to some reason,” added the police officer.
