Pithoragarh jolted by mild earthquake

Several places in Pithoragarh district on Indo-Nepal border were hit by another slight intensity earthquake of 4 magnitude on Richter scale on Monday morning, three days after a 3.7 magnitude tremor struck the region.

Significantly, the earthquake that lasted few seconds hit the border district at 6:00am with its epicentre at latitude 29.6 degree North and longitude 80.3 degree East with a focal depth of 10km.
Reportedly, people living in villages in Bangapani tehsil of Pithoragarh district ran out of their homes in the morning after experiencing mild tremors. However, no loss of life and property has been reported from the quake-hit district, which lies in high risk seismic zone of the country. This was the fifth mild quake hitting the Pithoragarh district since April this year.
