Sero survey finds Covid-19 antibodies in 23pc Delhiites

According to the SERO survey in Delhi, 23% of the population has got signs of getting infected with corona. Through a blood sample in the sero survey, it is seen that what segment or fraction of people have actually been infected. Does the general public have antibodies to the corona virus present? From this, it is ascertained that in those people who do not have any symptoms of corona, the corona virus has been cured and their body has antibodies.

From this perspective, the results of the SERO survey show to what extent the corona has spread in the capital. So far, nearly 24 percent of the population in Delhi has been exposed to corona infection. That means corona antibodies have been found in them. Symptoms were not found in most people. That is, their body has developed the ability to fight the corona. The reason for this is that despite the exposure of corona to 23.48 percent of the population, there were no deaths nor community infections at that level. That is, the results of the survey showed that these people were safe from corona and there was no spread of corona as much as was feared.

It also means that antibodies have been prepared to fight corona among these 23 percent people and these people are completely safe from this epidemic. Corona antibodies in the body also mean that corona will not be able to affect them in the near future.

The purpose of the Sero survey was to find out how many people’s bodies have been prepared to fight Corona. For this, a rapid test of antibodies was done in the survey. Under this survey, a survey was conducted in 11 districts of Delhi from 27 June to 10 July. Blood samples of 21387 people were taken. Survey has been done in 10 cities. The survey was conducted in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Indore, Kolkata, Thane, Jaipur, Chennai and Delhi.

Lockdown, control and monitoring measures

According to the Union Health Ministry, Delhi’s sero-prevalence study found that 23.48 percent of the city’s people were affected by Covid-19. The ministry said in a statement, “The results of sero-prevalence studies show that on average, the presence of IgG antibodies is 23.48 percent in the whole of Delhi. This study also shows that many infected people did not have signs of infection. ” The ministry said, “This means that during the nearly six-month spread of the global pandemic, only 23.48 per cent of people were affected in Delhi, while the city has many densely populated areas.”

The ministry attributed this to lockdown, control and surveillance measures to prevent the spread of infection, other efforts made by the government, including detection of people exposed to the infected and appropriate behavior of citizens in the context of Covid. However, it said that still a large part of the population remains susceptible and hence the steps of control will have to continue with equal rigor.

The ministry said that steps such as physical distance, use of face masks or covers, hygiene of hands, covering mouth while sneezing or coughing and avoiding crowded spaces will have to be strictly followed.

Survey teams were formed for all 11 districts of Delhi. After taking their written consent from the selected individuals, blood samples were taken and IgG antibodies and infection were tested in their serum. Covid kit ELISA approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was used for this.
