Four people, including a woman, were killed when their car fell into a deep gorge in Lansdowne area of Pauri district. They were returning from a wedding in Riknikhal, approximately 50 km from Lansdowne on Wednesday. All four victims belonged to Kotdwar.

Vineet Kumar, sub-divisional magistrate, Lansdowne, said, “The passengers were travelling back to Kotdwar after a wedding when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Initial investigation suggests that the driver, Virender Singh, was heavily intoxicated.” The post-mortem reports are awaited.

The other passengers included 40-year-old Anita Devi, a school teacher, Nandan Singh, 48, a police operator, and an unidentified male who was around 17-year-old.

Kumar said, “The young boy has not been identified since he carried no identity proof. We do not know if the passengers were related to each other.” The road from Kotdwar to Riknikhal is a single lane highway with sharp bends.
