Uttarakhand government planning to ban facebook, casual wear for officers in Secretariat

As part of a string of measures that are planned to be soon introduced in order to ‘enhance employee performance’, employees of the state secretariat will not be allowed to use Facebook and other social media sites on their official computers. Besides, they will be required to dress in formal wear and not in casual clothes like jeans or T-shirts.

The measures were discussed at a meeting between principal secretary Anand Bardhan and representatives of the Sachivalaya Sangh led by its president Deepak Joshi, on Friday.

Besides the ban on social media and implementation of the dress code, a slew of other measures were also discussed in the meeting to improve the functioning of the employees. According to sources, both the sides mutually agreed on majority of the points, and it is likely that these proposals may be soon implemented.

It was also decided during the meeting that better security measures should be put into place to monitor visitors. “The visitor pass would be valid only for 150 minutes. This is to ensure that visitors leave the premises once their work gets over,” Joshi said. The two sides were also in favour of having a strict attendance system in the secretariat for which measures like installation of CCTV cameras and bio-metric attendance were discussed.
