Three killed, seven hurt after being struck by lightning in Uttarkashi

Three people were killed and seven others injured after lightning struck two tents in Chaainsheel Bugyal area of Uttarkashi district late Friday evening.

Till the filing of report, district administration team, with the help of police, forest team and State Disaster Response Force, succeeded in rescuing three injured, whereas effort was on to rescue the remaining four to Mauda area.

Rough weather at Chaainsheel Bugyal, 3,600 metre above the seal level, prevented helicopters from operating on Saturday, which hit the rescue operation.
Uttarakashi DM said inclement weather made it tough for pilots to operate choppers. “We will wait for some more time, and if choppers are unable to fly, we will bring the injured to Mauda using stretchers on 15-km trek route,” he added.

The dead have been identified as Mor Singh (48) from Mauda Aarakot, and Lokesh Singh Rawat (27) and Amar Singh (49) from adjoining Balawat Aarakot area. The seven injured are Jagdish Singh, Jitendra Singh, Chaman Singh, Donesh Singh, Janak Singh, Sanjay Singh and Akhilesh Singh.

The three injured have been admitted to Mauda PHC, where senior district officials are camping on Saturday.
