20 year old South African smashes 490 runs in a 50 over game

490! that’s not a typo, those runs were actually scored by a 20 year old South African in a 50 over game. Shane Dadswell, smashed 490 runs for his club NWU Pukke against Potch Dorp 1st in a 50-overs club game at the Wiltrand Oval at Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Eventually, NWU Pukke won the match by 387 runs, after Potch Dorp 1st managed to come up with 290/9 in their innings.

57 sixes in 151 ball knock

The wicket-keeper batsman, who was celebrating his 20th birthday on Saturday, demolished the opposition bowling during his 151-ball knock, that was studded with 57 sixes and 27 fours. As many as 450, 92% of the total runs, came in boundaries.

Teammate Ruan Haasbroek played the supporting role, scoring 104 not out off 52 deliveries. Haasbroek hit six sixes and 12 fours. Dadswell’s knock powered Pukke to a stupendous 677 for 3 in 50 overs. In setting a near unassailable target of 677, Pukke registered 63 sixes and 48 fours.

Contribution with the ball

Dadswell extended his contribution to bowling as well, taking three wickets in seven overs, conceding just 32 runs. Pukke registered a massive 387-run victory.

Three years back, in 2014, S Sankruth Sriram had hammered 486 for JSS International School against Hebron School in the Nilgiris DCA U-16 inter-school one-day tournament at Ooty, India. That was believed to be the highest in minor one-day cricket. Dadswell’s score could well be a world record in a limited-overs game.
