Nitish Rana to lead KKR in IPL 2023
Nitish Rana is going to captain Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, as Shreyas Iyer has not recovered from his injury. This has been officially announced by the franchise itself. KKR has informed on its social media accounts that Nitish Rana will be the captain of the team in IPL 2023. The situation regarding Shreyas Iyer is not yet clear as to when he will return.
Shreyas Iyer was injured in the last Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played against Australia. Since then he has not recovered from that injury. However, if reports in Cricbuzz are to be believed, KKR is still optimistic that he will be seen playing for the team in some part of the tournament. The Kolkata team’s first match is against Punjab Kings on March 1 in Mohali.
Kolkata Knight Riders had many foreign options as captain, but the Kolkata-based franchise has not placed bets on a foreign captain considering the combination of the playing XI. Kolkata has players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee and Shakib Al Hasan among foreign players.
