10th class student set on fire in Almora; suffers serious burns

A case of attempt to burn a tenth student in class room in state inter college in Lamgada block of Almora has come to light. Masked youths put the kerosene on the student and set him on fire. The severely scorched student was lying in the class room for a long time. The incident occured on Tuesday morning. Police meanwhile are not ruling out the possibility of the incident being a suicide attempt. Still, the statement of the student will be examined seriously said the police.

After opening the inter-college on Tuesday morning, all the students gathered in the ground for a prayer meeting. Meanwhile, flames appeared in the class room of 10th, with the sound of screaming. When the teacher and the students ran away towards the class room, they all sensed the sight. Rakesh (17), son of Gopal Singh, resident of Class X, Lambagda (Almora) had a fire on his body.

At the end of the day, the teachers of the class doused the flames. By then, he was severely scorched. The scorched student was brought to Base Hospital Almora with the help of locals, from where the doctors referred him to Dr. Sushila Tiwari Medical College Hospital, Haldwani. During this, ASI Bahadur Singh of the police post of Almora Base Hospital, recorded the statement of the burnt student.

Rakesh said in a statement to the police that he came to clean black board of the class room with kerosene. When he was going to clear the black board before going to prayer meeting, four masked youths detained him and put kerosene on him and set him on fire. Investigations are going on into the incident from police as well as school administration, but the statement of the scared student has spread panic.
