CWC meeting: Sonia Gandhi to continue as interim President

After the crushing defeat in recently concluded elections of five states, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Sonia Gandhi. In the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, which lasted for four hours, it was decided that Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the President of the party and no member of the party will resign. Top leaders of the party including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot participated in the meeting. It is believed that after this meeting, now the interim president of the party, Sonia Gandhi, can announce the election for the post of party president. However, nothing has been said about any date in this regard yet.

According to sources, in the meeting, Sonia Gandhi said that some people feel that the Gandhi family is responsible for the party’s dismal performance in the assembly elections and if so, they will make any “sacrifice” to ensure the success of the organisation.

Sonia Gandhi will lead the party

Giving information about the meeting, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the members talked about reforms in the organizational structure of the party. At the same time, after the meeting, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI correspondent that Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will lead the Congress. ‘She will take the decisions of the party in future. We all have faith in his leadership.’

Brainstorming on future strategy

Giving information about the meeting, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Goa in-charge of All India Congress Committee said that Sonia Gandhi will continue to be the president of the party. ‘We had a detailed discussion on the election results of five states. How to move things forward and prepare for the upcoming elections. These issues were also discussed.’

Tharoor again raised the voice of reform

Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said that Congress is the most reliable opposition party in the country. Thus, it needs improvement. Tharoor’s remarks came amid the Congress Working Committee meeting. Tharoor has already talked about change in the party.

Former PM Manmohan Singh absent from meeting

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and three other Congress leaders did not attend the party working committee meeting. Congress leader AK Antony could not attend the meeting as his corona test report came positive.
