Rishikesh, Kotdwar nagar palika’s dissolved; DM appointed administrator
Upgrading municipalities, The government has issued the mandate to upgrade Rishikesh and Kotdwar nagar palika (muncipalties) to nagar nigam (municipal corporation) on Friday. With this, the District Magistrate has been appointed as Administrator, while dissolving the elected Board of both the Municipalities.
Last month, the cabinet stamped the construction of Rishikesh and Kotdwar municipality as a municipal corporation. On Friday, the Urban Development Secretary ordered both municipalities to be upgraded to municipal corporation. There is a provision in the Municipal Act that the municipality has to dissolve the elected board of the municipal corporation. Now the number of Municipal Corporations has increased from six to eight in the Uttarakhand.
