Sri Lanka thrash India in 1st ODI at Dharamshala

Change from whites to colored clothing saw a reversal in fortunes for both the teams as team India suffered a dramatic collapse to fold for 112 unable to play even their full allotted quota of 50 overs. Batting first on a seamer friendly wicket India led by Rohit Sharma who is fulfilling captain’s duties in the absence of Virat Kohli suffered a shocking batting collapse. Suranga Lakhmal was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka grabbing 4 wickets in 10 overs.

For India the situation could have been much worse had it not been for the former skipper MS Dhoni’s calm 65 run knock which enabled the hosts to reach the 3 figure mark. In reply Sri Lanka romped home with 7 wickets and plenty of overs to spare. The result of the 1st ODI should give the Indian team management a reality check of what awaits team India when they tour South Africa next month.

“We were not up to the mark with the bat. 70-80 runs more and it would have been a different ball game. It is important to thrive in these conditions and come out good. It is an eye opener for all of us,” said Rohit at the post-match presentation ceremony here after a seven-wicket loss to Lanka.

Sri Lanka finally end their losing streak. They came into this series having lost their last 12 ODIs, but they’ve gone 1-0 up with a commanding performance in Dharmshala.
