Board exams to be held for 5th and 8th standard in Uttarakhand government schools

Government has taken an important decision for the improving quality of elementary education. There will be 5th and 8th Board examinations in government schools. The exams will be from the next academic session.

The special thing is that the results of the examinations are going to increase the worry of teachers more than the students. Students will not be disappointed at the low marks, but for this the teachers are expected to get an adverse reaction. If this happens, due to lack of coefficients, they may have to struggle with transfers and promotions.

Education Minister Arvind Pandey held a meeting with officials of the Education Department at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon. In the meeting lasting more than two and a half hours, several important decisions were taken. Due to the enforcement of the Right to Education Act, children are not being failed from class I to VIII, but education minister has become serious about the slowdown in evaluation under its guise.

He said that there is a ban on failing in the act but there is no restriction in the assessment. Hence board examinations of classes V and VIII will be done. Evaluation will help in improving the quality of education. This will know the level of knowledge about children, and the performance of the teachers will be judged. Instead of children, teachers will come in the process of action for less marks. In case of low marks of the students, an adverse entry will be registered in the concerned teacher’s character register.

It was decided in the meeting that the question papers for board examinations would be prepared at the level of the DIETs in the districts. The evaluation will be done at the Block Resource Persons (BRP) level. During the casual inspection, the Education Minister also instructed the schools to cut the salaries of teachers who were absent in the schools. The teachers’ salary will be drawn on the basis of biometric attendance report.
