Raft full of people overturns in Rishikesh; 1 woman dead

Tragedy occurred for a group of tourists rafting on river Ganga in Rishikesh. The raft with tourists went out of control and turned upside down. In the accident, a woman tourist died due to drowning in Ganga, while three tourists were rescued safely.

According to the information, at around three o’clock in the afternoon, rafting from Shivpuri, eight tourists aboard the rafts and a rafting guide were coming towards Muni-ki-reti, as soon as the raft passed over golf rapids in Brahmapuri it overturned. Four tourists, including a woman tourist aboard the raft, started drowning in the Ganges, while rafting guides riding in a rafting from the rear, took out three youths safely out of the water.

The women tourist, who went far ahead, was pulled out in an unconscious state and taken to Rishikesh Government Hospital. Where the doctors declared her dead. Police identified Bhagwati Verma (33) wife Anshuman Verma as the deceased. Police station in-charge Manish Upadhyay said that woman tourists had come to Shivpuri in the morning for rafting with their male friend Brijendra Yadav resident of Chhatarpur, Delhi. The companion and two other tourists who rescued from the immersion in the Ganges are safe.
