Case registered against IIT Kanpur professor for flying drone in Corbett

A Kanpur IIT professor and four of his students, who were recording via drone in Corbett, got caught by the forest department. During this time their drone went  out of control in the forest and was lost. It was later found by Corbett personnel in the morning.

Professor Javed N. Malik of the Earth Science Department at IIT Kanpur had visited Ramnagar with his four students Sneha, Ishan, Azhar and Nidhi. On Tuesday evening, he was recording video of the forest by flying a drone in the Fultal Kotdwar road block of the Bijarani range of Corbett Tiger Reserve.

When the Corbett forest team reached the spot on the alert, and stopped the professor and his students from recording. Meanwhile, the drone fell out of control and fell somewhere in the bush. The team took control of the drone controller, a mobile phone and USB. In the evening the staff searched for the drone, but the drone was not found.

On Wednesday morning, forest officials reached the spot and found the drone. The drone was found lying in the bush. The drones and other equipment were sealed. Professor said that he was mapping the earthquake belt in Himalayan region. The Corbett’s Bijarani Ranger ranger said that the no one is allowed to enter Corbett record videos through drone without prior permission. The case against wildlife protection and the trespassing was registered against the professor. After the instructions of the officers, advance action will be taken.
