Uttarakhand Roadways employees go on strike; 400 buses standstill

On the various demands of the employees, Uttaranchal roadways employees union started work boycott in Dehradun division. With this, bus operations were badly affected in Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kotdwar and Roorkee Depot.

All Volvo, AC and Deluxe buses of the roadways were stuck due to the strike. Employees started the demonstration at Dehradun ISBT.

By the late night, the talks continued with Roadways Management, but the three round talks failed. After this, the workers of the union went on the exclusion of work from midnight. Roadways buses stopped moving from this morning causing trouble to passengers. Long distance travelers had to face the most problems.

Buses going to Delhi, Chandigarh, Haldwani, Jaipur, Faridabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Ambala, Dharamsala, Gururgram etc. are standing at the bus stop only. At the same time, roadways management is claiming alternate arrangements.
About 400 buses are expected to be affected by the strike. Due to work order, the employees had already started taking leave. In Doon district alone, more than 200 drivers and operators have applied for leave. Union is demanding promotion of driver along with stopping of exploitation by local dhabha owners on highway routes.

Besides, there is also a demand for conducting a Vigilance inquiry of the SKS agency working in the Dehradun division, including strict action against contractual operators stealing diesel. The union is also raising the demand for timely salary and operating of buses on new routes. Union Minister of State Ashok Chaudhary said that in this regard, the meeting was held on Thursday with the management of three rounds but the solution was not solved. In such a situation, the union started the movement from midnight.
