Coaching institutes in Jammu & Kashmir to remain closed for 90 days

All coaching institutes in Jammu and Kashmir will be closed for the next 90 days. This announcement was made on Sunday by Education Minister Sayed Altaf Bukhari. The formal notification will be issued on Monday 23rd April. He added that the decision to stop coaching institutions is being done with efforts to improve the quality of education in the state. But this verdict is being seen in Kashmir with the violent demonstrations of the students not staying in spite of all efforts of the government.

The decision of the closure of coaching institutes has been taken  by the Education Minister during the deliberations of issues related to the education sector in the meeting with the principals of all the government schools, all the District Chief Education Officers and Regional Education Officers. In the interaction with the media after the meeting, he said that decision has been taken  to improve education and academic activities in the state.

Education Minister said that during the discussion in the meeting many such points were discussed, due to which the students’ attention was diverting from studies. The students are staying away from schools and in them coaching center is also one of the reasons. Therefore, the governemnt have decided to close the coaching institute for the next 90 days in the state. Children do not come to school due to coaching centers; in many places the students stay at the coaching center till 11 o’clock and after that attend school.
He said that our school education system is very good and we are working towards making it even better. If coaching is needed then we will arrange extra classes, coaching centers for children. At the same time, we have instructed the officers concerned to prepare a list of all the teachers, lecturers and school principals and give it to the Directorate of Education and related administration who are involved in private coaching. Action will be taken against them too.

In response to students’ violent demonstrations and police action questions, he said that the students have expressed their anger on the Kathua issue. I appeal to them that they return to schools, urge the students to pay attention to their studies, our children are our future, we can not see them being wasted. You are our tomorrow, come back to your classrooms. He said that the police is not standing infornt of schools anywhere, it is only for maintaining law and order, not to run school.
