Section 144 imposed in Agastyamuni after incidents of violence
On the objectionable post in the social media, the situation has remained tense after incidents of violence in Agastyamuni. The administration has imposed Section-144 in the entire Rudraprayag Tehsil area. The police took out a flagged march on Saturday in major towns including Agasthyamuni. They appealed not to pay attention to rumors. DM Mangesh Ghildiyal and SP PN Meena are keeping an eye on the whole episode. Additional police force has been called in Rudraprayag from Pauri, Chamoli and Tehri districts. The entire Agastyamuni market has become transformed into a fortress.
On Thursday evening, a person had put an objectionable post on the social media about Agasthyamuni. This faked news became viral. On seeing this, some students and locals went to the police station and demanded action against the accused from the police. It was rumored that the youth of another community raped a young woman. While officers of the police administration say that such an incident has not happened. This faked news became viral and till Friday morning the case spread like fire. On Friday morning, miscreants targeted and burnt down community specific shops in Ganganagar, Vijaygunar and Agastyamuni. About 15 shops were demolished. In many places the shops were handed burnt down to the ground. Many motorcycles were also burnt.
DM Mangesh Ghildiyal issued a statement on the social media at the earliest after considering the tension after the incident. He said that wrong reports of rape were carried out in social media, which caused such a situation in Agastyamuni. It is just rumored and that there is no truth in it. After the incident of Agastyamuni, the police increased security at several places including the headquarters. Either way this matter is not being allowed to proceed further. On Saturday, a large number of police personnel were deployed in Agastyamuni, Rudraprayag along with Guptkashi and Ukhimath. Police is patrolling at Agastyamuni, Guptkashi, Ukhimath, Rudraprayag and other places. The police is taking out a flag march and are talking about not paying attention to the rumors. It was conveyed that strict action would be taken against the person who tried to spoil the law system.
