Homeguards in Uttarakhand to get salary as per 7th Pay commission

Work has been started in respect to giving homeguards deployed in Uttarakhand to paying equal pay on working like a police constable in the near future. After the guidelines were given in this regard to the state government on behalf of the Center, it is now being seen now that how much additional burden will be on the state government after raising the salary. It is believed that if the salary of homeguards is increased, the government will have to give a home guard a minimum of 25 thousand rupees. However, the entire draft will be prepared and presented to the cabinet.

More than six and a half thousand home guards are servicing their services in various departments in the state. These departments include Police, Transport, Secretariat and Communication etc. Apart from keeping the security arrangements from these home guards, the work of security and class IV employees in the departments is being taken. Currently they are given honorarium worth 450 rupees per day. According to rules made for home guards, when they serve as assistant of the police, they are referring to the same rights and facilities given to the police. Approximately two years ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of homeguards to give equal pay as given to the police. Some states followed it and some did not make any decision on it.

In the same sequence, the Center has now written a letter to all states to follow the Supreme Court’s decision. Such a letter has also received by Uttarakhand government. After getting this letter, the government has now begun the exercise to pay homewards similar to police personnel. It is being seen now that by increasing the salary of Home Guards, how much financial burden will be on the state. It is being said that the state government can also request the Center to fulfill this additional expenditure. Principal Secretary Home Anand Vardhan says that the letters are being prepared in this regard. Whatever decision will be made in respect of the salary, it will be taken at a higher level.
