Forest fire reaches SP, DM house in Champawat

A fire broke out in the forest of Tillon near district headquarters of Champawat. Due to an ongoing dry spell in Uttarakhand, the fire spread rapidly over a large area. On arrival, the team of forest department and police reached the spot. After two hours hard fight they were able to overcome the fire. However in the afternoon the forest was again caught by the fire. Due to the alertness of the forest department, they were able to overcome the fire.

A fire broke out in the woods of Punethi Forest Panchayat. As soon as the information was received, the Forest Department team headed by Forster Chatur Singh reached the spot. Because of the residence of SP Dhirendra Singh Gunjyal nearby, the team of PSC also reached the spot. Seeing the fire turning into a raging inferno, it took two hours to control the fire by the four teams which started to extinguish the fire.

In a while, the fire brigade team reached the spot. But by then the fire was controlled. According to the forest department workers, the fire spread again in the forest shortly after, but the fire department was able to control the fire. Ranger KC Tiwari, who arrived on the spot, said that due to the fire, about half hectare forest has been damaged. The department officials have been asked to stay alert.
