The New Zealand women’s cricket team has made history. New Zealand scored 490 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in an ODI against Ireland in Dublin. Captain Suzie Bates scored a superb innings of 151 runs for New Zealand. Bates scored 24 fours and two sixes in 94 balls, while Maddy Green scored 121 runs off 105 balls with 17 fours and two sixes.
The New Zealand team, which is known as the ‘white ferns’, has now recorded the highest score of any ODI match, including male cricket. The record for most runs in male cricket is in England’s name. England had scored 444 runs for three wickets against Pakistan in Nottingham in 2016.
New Zealand had earlier scored 455 runs in five matches against Pakistan in Christchurch in 1997. New Zealand won this match with 408 runs.
This is just the third chance in women’s cricket when more than 400 runs are scored in one-day internationals. Apart from New Zealand this is done by Australia only. Australia had scored 412 runs in three matches against the Denmark women team in Mumbai in December 1997.
