Uttarakhand High Court bans river rafting and paragliding activities for two weeks

There is bad news for tourists who were planning river rafting and paragliding in Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand High Court has imposed restrictions on sports related to water in all the rivers of the state for two weeks. The bench of Justice Rajiv Sharma and Lokpal Singh ordered this decision while hearing the petition filed by Rishikesh’s social worker Hariom Kashyap.

Uttarakhand High Court has ordered the state government to prepare a proper policy for sports with river rafting, paragliding and other water. The court has asked them not to permit these activities until the policy is prepared for these games. The court has said in its order that unless a state government makes laws for these sportsmen, no one should be allowed permission from them.

According to reports, Hariom Kashyap, a resident of Rishikesh filed a public interest petition in the High Court saying that the government had given license to Bhagwati Kala and Virendra Singh in 2014 with some conditions for river rafting camps. He said that these rules were continuously violated and in the name of rafting started camping along the banks of river Ganga and in the camp, illegal activites were done on the Ganga bankst.

It has been said in the petition that Bhagwati Kala and Virendra Singh  are doing illegal works by river rafting camps along the river Ganges, whose garbage goes to the river. After which there was a demand for a ban on these camps. It has also been said in the petition that licensing such camps on river banks has been promoting water pollution and the sacred water of Ganges is also becoming unclean.
