France defeated Uruguay 2-0 in the quarterfinas of the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup on Friday. For France, Raphaël Varane scored in the 40th minute, while Antoine Griezmann scored in the 61st minute.
France has been successful in reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2006. They have reached the semifinals for the sixth time. This match was a test for both teams, which France won. For them, however, it was not easy to break Uruguay’s defense. After a lot of effort, they managed to take a 1-0 lead on Uruguay in the 40th minute with a free kick.
At the same time, the second goal was due to an error from Uruguay’s goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. Griezmann took a shot from outside the box, which went straight to the hands of Muslera, but the ball was spun with his hand and went into the net.
From here it was difficult to return for Uruguay. France strengthened its defense in the last moments, and this is why Uruguay could not score a single goal.
