Heavy rains forecasted in Uttarakhand; schools to remain closed in Pithoragarh

In Uttarakhand, the bad weather has been predicted to continue for  one or two more days. The Meteorological Department has issued heavy to very heavy rain warning in seven districts of the state in the next 24 hours. There were light showers in some places in the state on Friday. In view of the heavy rain alert in Pithoragarh, the District Magistrate has ordered all government, non-government schools to be closed. A woman slipped in the gutter in Gaula of Munasari tehsil in Pithoragarh District and slipped into the river. Gaura village resident Haruli Devi wife Chandra Singh was going to the nearby village of Okhalia. She  was swept away by the waters of seasonal rivulet when she slipped on a rocky path. The woman could not be found. After getting the information, police arrived at the spot of the scene and was involved in the investigation.
Due to poor weather, Kailash Mansarovar passengers could not be transported from Pithoragarh. Yamunotri and Gangotri highways remained interrupted for about an hour. Due to the rains, more than fifty contact routes in mountain districts are closed from debris. At the same time, in the morning in Uttarkashi, the Yamunotri Highway was closed near Dabarkot due to landslides caused by rains this morning. The highway could be opened after about three hours.
The state has received light and moderate rains since last two days. The same sequence continued on Friday. Since the debris in Pithoragarh, 29 closed roads could not be opened. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra could not start off Pithoragarh due to poor weather, while one team has been stopped from Almora since Tuesday. More than 17 contact routes in Bageshwar are closed due to debris. Char Dham Yatra continues, but due to the rain, fewer pilgrims are reaching the Dhams.
