Novak Djokovic reaches Wimbledon Final after defeating Nadal 10-8 in 5th set

Novak Djokovic silenced his critics and doubters who thought the Serb’s career was all but over in a grueling 5 set match against Rafael Nadal. Djokovic, who rejoined the tour after an elbow surgery looked a shadow of former self in the warm up tournaments. In Wimbledon, however the former world number 1 who is seeded 12 this year seemed to have found his feet. However, the Serb’s true test awaited in the Semi Final against arch rival Rafael Nadal. With Federer out of the tournament, Nadal was the hot favorite to win the title to follow up his 11th French Open triumph.

The men’s Semi Finals of this year’s Wimbledon proved why tennis can be one of the most physical sports. Both matches went the distance to 5 sets and lasted over 5 hours each. While the Kevin Anderson- John Isner encounter was the longest semi final ever, the Djokovic- Nadal match that followed was the second longest ever.
