Serum institute to supply 10 crore vaccine doses in June

The Serum Institute has told the central government that it will produce and supply 10 crore Covishield doses in the month of June. The company’s statement has come on the lack of Corona virus vaccine in the country. In a recent letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Serum stated that its employees are working 24 hours despite a variety of challenges due to the pandemic.

Prakash Kumar Singh, Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs, SII, said in the letter, ‘We are pleased to share that we will be able to produce and supply 9 to 10 crore doses of Covishield vaccine in the month of June, which is higher than our production capacity (of 6.5 crores than doses) in May.’

He said, “we assure you that under the support and guidance of the Government of India, we are trying to make the best use of our resources to increase the capacity of vaccine production in the coming months.”

According to the statement, the states and union territories have been given clear information about how many vaccine doses will be supplied to them in June 2021. Health Ministry said, in the month of June on behalf of the Government of India, 6.09 crore doses of vaccine were made available free of cost to the people of the age group of 45 or above, in addition to their health workers, advance staff posted there in the month of June.

According to the ministry, 40349830 doses of the vaccine were made available to the states by the Center in May. Additionally, 39055370 doses of the vaccine were available for direct purchase by states and private hospitals. Thus, 79405200 doses of the vaccine were available in total for the National Covid Vaccination Program in May.
