38 dead in bridge collapse in Italy

On Tuesday in the northern port city of Genoa, Italy, a large part of a bridge fell on the rail tracks. 38 people lost their lives due to this accident. Many people are still suspected of being buried in the debris. This is the biggest such incident in Italy.

Italy’s Deputy Transport Minister Edoardo Rixi said, “38 people died and this number could increase.” According to media reports, about 200 meters of Morandi Bridge collapsed suddenly. This bridge is located in the industrial area of ​​the western part of the city.

A spokesman for fire service said that most debris fell on the railway track. Many cars and trucks also collapsed with debris. The firefighters and rescue workers are looking for people buried in the rubble. Help is also being sought from sniffer dogs. The Morandi Bridge was constructed in 1967. Apart from this, many factories are located in addition to many railway tracks. Many buildings around the area have also been damaged by the bridge collapse.
