Dehradun at 80th position in list of Ease of Living cities index; Pune number 1

Dehradun, which traditionally has been identified as a haven for retired people, has now shifted to the last rung of best cities to live in India. Dehradun was at the 80th place among 111 cities ease of Living Index. Over the last 18 years since Dehradun was made the capital of Uttarakhand only the population has increased, while the facilities and resources have continued to be reduced. Because of the increased population up to 40 percent of Doon, the expected improvement on the front of the environment, waste management, transport, drinking water supply, housing could not be done.

Looking at the four Sectors (Institutional, Social, Economic and Infrastructure) in the Ease to Living Index, Doon lagged on every front. After analyzing the 15 sub-fields of these facilities, the situation becomes clear that we have just lost and have not been achieved. Talking about improvement efforts and opportunities for performance, in the smart city project, Doon was able to make the cut after barely three attempts. Right after that, despite all the efforts in the clean survey, Dehradun could not improve its ranking.

The four key parameters

Institutional: There was a lack of effort to improve the facilities at the Government level. This includes garbage management, there are 295 MT of garbage every day, whereas lifting can be only about 200 MT. In place of planned construction, more than 25 thousand illegal constructions came into existence in Doon. More than 30 thousand trees have been cut in the name of urbanization and in the air pollution, Doon has come in sixth place in the most polluted cities of the country. Metro and smart transport in the name of transport facilities is still far away.
Infrastructure: In order to reduce the pressure of traffic within the city, ring road has not been created and under the name of structural development, only three flyovers exist one out of that is also way too narrow. Various projects of road widening have just become an example of irregularity. Talking about the drinking water system, dependency is made only on ground water and no arrangements are made for recharging. Currently, about three lakh people who do not get enough water. Power supply should not be different according to demand, but in the absence of resources people have to cut power.
Economic condition: A large section is backward on the economic front and the main reason is the absence of employment. Over 1.76 lakh applicants have been registered in Doon in the service office. Among them, more than 56,000 unemployed candidates are undergraduates, while 28 thousand are graduates. Employment opportunities for the highly educated 50 percent of the people are not being provided.
Social level: Accommodation on this front is one of the biggest challenges. For the common man, dream of home in Doon is less than any challenge. If you talk about the housing plan for everyone then out of 15000 target only 2000 have got homes.
