Heavy rains lash Dehradun; alert issued for next 48 hours in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, the overflowing river-ravines have made life difficult for the people. More than five hundred villages in the state have been cut off from the district headquarters. Traffic on over 115 roads is interrupted. Meanwhile, according to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand is expected in the next 48 hours.
On Saturday, heavy rain was recorded in different parts of the state. The department has also expressed the possibility of a cloudburst. Given the weather patterns, the government has kept NDRF and SDRF on alert. Apart from this, National Highway Authority, Public Works Department and Border Road Organization have also been asked to be prepared as per the circumstances. The government has directed the district administration that tourists should not be sent to higher Himalayan regions.
The rainy season is continuing in the Dehradun district for the past two days. At around 2:30 in the morning, a flash flood occurred in the song riverĀ  and the water entered the villages breaking the embankment. The police and SDRF team reached the spot and brought the villagers to the safe place. However after three hours the water level became normal. On the other hand, in the mountainous areas, life is disrupted by rain. Traffic was disrupted throughout the day due to debris on Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri national highways.

In Dehradun too there was heavy cloud cover since morning and heavy rains battered the city since evening. The prominent roads in the city turned into free flowing rivers. Traffic jam occurred in many parts of the city due to water logging.
