India trounce Hong Kong 26-0 in Asian Games Hockey; break 86 year old record

Indian men’s hockey team made history by crushing Hong Kong in the pool match at the Asian Games on Friday, 26-0. It’s been 86 years since Team India has won with such a big victory.

Earlier, India (before Independence) defeated America in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games by 24-1. The record for the biggest win in international hockey is by New Zealand, which defeated Samoa 36-1 in 1994 .

In this match, India dominated from the beginning. Before this, the team made a great start of its campaign in the 18th Asian Games. In the first encounter, Team India beat hosts Indonesia 17-0. This is the biggest victory ever for India in Asiad. In the match, more than 9 players from India scored goals.
Indian men’s hockey team continued their strong performance in the 18th Asian Games, defeating Hong Kong 26-0 in their second group match on Wednesday. India had defeated hosts Indonesia by a huge margin of 17-0 in their first group match.

India started off fast against Hong Kong and forward Akashdeep gave the lead to his team with the first goal, within two minutes. A minute later, Manpreet Singh scored the second goal for India. After the splendid start, India continued to play fast hockey and made four goals in the first quarter. Rupinder Pal Singh scored through penalty corner and SV Sunil and Vivek Sagar scored one goal each.

Mandeep Singh and Lalit Upadhyay scored two each while Manpreet, Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas and Varun Kumar scored one goal each. Indian players continued to score in the second half and scored 12 goals.
