Health department on alert for Norovirus and Zika virus

Due to the cases of Norovirus in Kerala, now precaution is being taken in Dehradun as well. It is an animal-borne disease, which is spread through contaminated water and contaminated food. Here, hospitals have been alerted about the increase in the cases of Zika virus in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

Dehradun’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Manoj Upreti says that norovirus has been confirmed in the students of a veterinary college in the state of Kerala. In which the patient is having stomach problems. At the same time, cases of Zika virus are increasing in Kanpur. In view of these circumstances, all the hospitals in the district are being alerted that patients coming from outside, especially from places like Kerala and Kanpur etc., who show such symptoms and their name, address and mobile number, must be noted. So that monitoring of such patients is done. Also, if they need to be admitted, they should be admitted to the hospital.

What is norovirus?

Norovirus causes gastrointestinal disease including inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestines, severe vomiting and diarrhea. It does not affect healthy individuals much, but can be serious in young children, the elderly. Norovirus is easily spread through close contact with infected individuals or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus can be spread through the stool and vomit of an infected person.

what is zika virus?

Zika virus is spread by mosquito. This virus is caused by the bite of a mosquito of the Aedes aegypti species. This is the same mosquito that spreads Dengue and Chikungunya. Zika infection is not a serious problem in most people, but it can be extremely dangerous for pregnant women, and especially for the fetus.
