Part of British era mall road collapses into Nainital lake

The Lower Mall Road, which connects Mallital and Tallital in Nainital collapsed late on Saturday evening. The large part of the road was bent towards the lake for many days, while many cracks had also appeared on the road. On Saturday morning 50 meters of road was leaned, after which the PWD workers were engaged in repair. But, in the evening, 25 meters of the road collapsed into the lake. The retaining wall and the guardrail attached to this part were caved into the lake. After this, the operation of the vehicles on the Lower Mall Road has been stopped. In late evening, the District Magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman interacted with the Public Works Department officials and gave necessary instructions. At night, PWD SE DS Nabal, EE CS Negi inspected the affected area. However, it is not clear now when the repair of damaged road will be completed.

It may take seven to ten days for traffic to open

The affected area has been covered with plastic as a precaution. If officials are to be believed then the damaged portion will have to be rebuilt, then it may be a solution to establish a valley bridge on this part of the valley road in the mean time. However, it can take seven to ten days to bring the Valley Bridge from Haldwani and to apply it here. Only then will the traffic on Lower Mall Road be smooth. At present, vehicles are being moved from Upper Mall Road only.
