On Tuesday, the martyred body of Hamir Pokhriyal of Rishikesh and Mandeep Singh from Kotdwar (Pauri Garhwal), who were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir were cremated. People turned up in huge numbers to pay tributes to the martyrs. Among the slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Terrorism Murdabad”  there was tremendous resentment among the people towards Pakistan.

On Wednesday, the bodies of both the martyrs were taken from the helicopter to Rishikesh and Kotdwar. On Thursday morning, Shaheed Hamir Pokhriyal was given the final farewell with full military honors on Rishikesh’s Puranananda Ghat. Earlier, armed forces accompanied by Brig VM Choudhary, Colonel Samanta, Major Rahul Mishra of 11th Garhwal Rifle and Capt Siddharth Sinha laid wreaths.
On the other hand, the body martyred Mandeep Signh was brought to his residence in the Army vehicle at State Base Hospital in Kotdwar. Here hundreds of people gathered to pay tributes to the martyr. The last journey was at about nine o’clock and the road was blocked. People were waiting on both sides of the road to pay homeage to the brave heart.
At the Muktidham Cremation Ghat of Kotdwar, the Army officers along with the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Commandant Colonel Shalabh Sanwal and Colonel BS Gussain laid the wreath.
