Polythene ban: Shopkeepers to be fined Rs 5000; Rs 500 fine for customers
Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat has announced a fine on the condition of using polyethylene while appealing to people nof the state to discontinue the use of polythene. The Chief Minister has given information through tweets that if found to be using polythene, the shopkeepers will be fined Rs 5000, the perpetrators will get Rs 2000 and the subscribers will be fined up to Rs 500. The Chief Minister said that the use of polythene contaminates the environment and also causes damages to crops, animals and birds. Therefore, the state government has decided to strictly enforce the use of polythene since August.
From today on raid against polythene use
After the directives of the Chief Minister, raids will be conducted throughout the state against use of polythene. Eight teams in Dehradun and one team each in Roorkee and Haldwani will carry out the raid against polythene. Dehradun Municipal Corporation’s Municipal Commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande told that eight teams have been formed in Dehradun. Each team has been given the target of twenty fines. Also, the municipal corporation will issue a phone number on which people can register their grievances.
DM Deepak Rawat of Haridwar has said that the police has asked the police to be alert so that polythene cannot be brought into the state from the border areas. Polythene fine penalties are as follows in Uttarakhand:
- 5000 rupees will be fined on shopkeeper
- 2000 rupees will be fined on hand cart vendors
- 500 rupees fines will be on the customer
