Jio to offer free voice call to all networks from January 1

Telecom operator Reliance Jio has announced free calls on every network across the country. According to the guidelines of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the 1 January Bill and Keep rule will apply. Under this, the interconnect usage charges (IUC) on all domestic voice calls will end.

Jio says that with the commitment to once again to make the domestic voice-call charge zero on non-Jio network and the IUC charge being phased out, Jio customers will once again get the benefit of off-net domestic free voice calls. It will start from 1 January 2021. On-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network.

Recall that in September 2019 TRAI extended the timeline to implement the Bill & Keep system to 1 January 2020. After this, Jio had the option of charging the same amount as the IUC charge for off-net voice calls. But then Jio had assured that the users will have to give this charge only till the TRAI removes the IUC charge.

Reliance Jio added 2.22 million new mobile subscribers in October. With this, the total number of subscribers of the company has reached 406.3 million.
