13 dead after vehicle falls 150 meter in gorge in Uttarkashi

On the Gangotri highway, about 45 km from the district headquarters, a vehicle carrying people from the Bhankoli village of Bhatwari block of Uttarkashi, returning after worshiping Gangotri Dham at the festival of Janmashtami met with an accident near the place of Sangli, seven kilometers ahead of Bhatwari. Due to the debris that fell into the road, the vehicle went straight into the depth of about one and a half hundred meters deep. 13 people of Bhankoli village, including the driver, died on the spot. Two injured have been brought to the district hospital for treatment.

A tragic accident has happened on the festival of Janmashtami. Celebrating the Janmashtami Festival, several people from villages of Bhankoli village of Bhatwari block went to Gangotri last evening after riding in dozens of vehicles to offer obeisance to the Naag Devta. After the worship at Ganotri on the festival of Janmashtami in the morning, the vehicle carrying the people of Bhankoli village was returning. As soon as it reached the place of Sangli, at around two o’clock, huge amount of debris came in front of the vehicle. Some rocks in the rubble hit the vehicle. Due to which the vehicle fell directly to the Ganges river in the depth of one and a half meter deep gorge. The second vehicle coming behind this vehicle hit the break immediately to avoid further casualty. Falling into a trench, 13 of the fifteen people including the rider died on the spot. There are 10 men and 3 women among the deceased. While two women are injured. The injured are being treated at the district hospital.
