Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to donate $2 billion for welfare

CEO of world’s leading e-commerce company, Amazon and world’s richest man Jeff Bezos, has decided to donate $ 2 billion (about Rs 14,500 crore) to help the poor. He has started a fund for philanthropy, which will help homeless families and poor children.

This fund will be divided into two parts – Day 1 Families Fund and Day 1 Academy Fund. Announcing the beginning of this fund, Bezos himself tweeted, “We are very happy to announce the Bezos day One Fund. It is a promise of $ 2 billion in the beginning and will focus on two main areas: cooperating with existing non-profit organizations and creating a non-profitable tier one pre-school network for poor income groups.
Bezos said that the Day 1 Families Fund will also be giving the annual award to organizations engaged in social work, civil society organizations. Through the Day 1 Academy Fund, a network of Montessori based pre-schools with a high level, full scholarship will be set up.

Significantly, Amazon’s CEO’s total assets exceed $ 160 billion. According to Forbes, Bezos is the richest person in the world.

Earlier in the US, Microsoft founder Bill Gates donated billions of dollars. He founded the Melinda and Gates Foundation and donated nearly $ 27 billion to it. Warren Buffett, a giant name in the investment world donated $ 21.5 billion in philanthropy.

In the case of donations in India, Wipro Chief Azim Premji leads the way, he has donated a funding of around $ 8 billion in philanthropy.
