Two resurgent players to meet in the US Open finals

When Novak Djokovic was upstaged by Next Gen star Hyeon Chung at the Australian Open many wondered whether the Serb who had missed 2017 due to an elbow injury would be able to reach the top level once again. Seven months down the road, Djokovic has not only fully recovered from the injury but also become a dominant force he was once winning 21 of his last 22 matches claiming titles in Wimbledon and Cincinnati enroute to the finals of the US Open. On the other side of the net Djokovic will be facing Juan Martin Del Potro who has an even more heartening comeback story. Since he first burst onto the seen as a lanky teenager who halted Roger Federer’s 5 consecutive US Open title run in 2009 Del Porto was looked to as a great threat to Federer and Nadal and a future World Number 1. But the 6’6″ tall Argentine also affectionately called Tower of Tandil was plagued by numerous injuries in his wrists.With so many operations and rehabs Del Potro had thoughts of calling it quits from tennis but he stuck around and with a thunderous forehand he has once again reached his peak level.

Djokovic-Delpotro rivalry
