Global Warming: Half of Bangkok could be under water within next decade

Ready to host talks on climate change, Bangkok is struggling to protect itself from the environmental crisis. Significantly, a serious warning about the climate change has said that this city will be partially submerged in a decade. The round of meetings is going on Tuesday to prepare for the next climate conference in the capital of Thailand. As temperatures rise, the unusual pattern of weather is expected to worsen over time. This has prompted the governments to pressurize the 2015 Paris Climate Change Treaty. Bangkok is situated on a marshland land at a height of only one and a half meters,  that is at a height of five feet above sea level, and due to the rising sea levels, this city is being described as facing the most risk.
Apart from this, the dangers of Global warming are also being seen in South Asian cities like Jakarta and Manila. Tara Buakamsri of Greenpeace said, “According to the World Bank report, due to heavy rains and changes in weather patterns, about 40 percent of Bangkok will be submerged by 2030. Currently the capital is submerged by one to two centimeters every year and there is a threat of severe flood in the near future “. The seas near Thailand’s Bay are rising above the rate of four millimeters per annum.
