Japan announces state of emergency in Tokyo as Corona cases rise

Japan has declared a state of emergency in several states including the capital Tokyo since Sunday due to the rising cases of Corona virus. The government hopes that cases of rapidly growing corona infection will be reduced through the Emergency. This emergency will be effective till May 11. Golden Week holidays begin in Japan from next week. During this time a large number of people move out. This is why the government has to declare a state of emergency even before the holidays.

Third Corona Emergency in Japan

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga formally approved the decision to declare a third emergency at a task force meeting on Friday. His office stated that this emergency would remain in force in the provinces of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo. During this time, the bars will be closed temporarily, as a large crowd of people can gather here during the holidays.

It is being told that one quarter of Japan’s population of about 126 million and about one third of its economy will be affected by this emergency. There is also a reason that there is now only 3 months left for the Tokyo Olympics to begin. Public transport will run on weekends only

During the emergency, no major event will be possible. Effective steps will also be taken to reduce the crowd of people. Trains and buses will also run in the last two days of the week. During this time only the most important people will be allowed to travel. Many commercial facilities, including department stores and shopping malls, will only be allowed to sell essential goods. Restaurants will be open till 8 pm.

Health experts gave warning

Health experts in Japan have warned that highly infectious variants of the coronavirus may wreak havoc during Golden Week. After a meeting with cabinet members including Health Minister Norihisa Tamura and the government’s in charge of the corona virus response, Yasutoshi Nishimura, PM Suga said that we would take action around the holiday period to prevent the spread of infection in all ways.
