Lucknow’s Hazratganj to be renamed ‘Atal Chowk’

The iconic Hazratganj intersection of Lucknow will now be known as Atal Chowk. Lucknow Mayor, Sanyukta Bhatia has given her consent to rename Hazratganj to ‘Atal Chowk’ in honor of former PM late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Now its proposal will be kept in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation House where it will be passed unanimously.

Lucknow Municipal Corporation decides to name or rename all the intersections, roads and other historical places within the city. Every month such proposals come to the executive. In the last days, after the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, there were discussions that in his name, streets and intersections should be named.

In the same episode, the proposal to change the name of the famous Hazratganj intersection of Lucknow to the name of former prime minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee came in front of the Municipal Corporations. The executive has been authorized by Lucknow mayor Sanyukta Bhatia to take a final decision. On the same decision, the collector has given approval to change the name of the intersection.
