Police retort to lathicharge in Dehradun’s premnagar anti-encroachment drive

Under the anti-encroachment drive, the administration took big action on Friday and demolished the illegal market in Premnagar. The surrounding illegal residential buildings and shops that were land-grabbed were also demolished. During this time the team, which had been on the anti-encroachment drive, had to face opposition at some places. But, police force intervened. As a result, seeing the illegal construction of the entire Premanagar market and the surrounding areas, the wreckage has turned into a heap. In this process, 155 illegal constructions were demolished, while 72 actions are yet to be taken. The campaign will continue on Saturday. People who protested against the removal of illegal construction by threatening in the past, were not be seen around on Friday. Illegal construction has been demolished in Dehradun for the last 78 days on the order of the Nainital High Court.

On the Chakrata-Paonta highway, an illegal market in Premnagar near IMA had cropped up. From this there was a situation of jam from morning to evening in the market. Encroachments were marked on June 27 on the order of the High Court. Here the house and the shops were found encroached for five to 12 meters. Action started on Friday at six in the morning, which continued till 8:30 PM. Meanwhile, people protested against the demolition of the house and shops. However, the police force used light force & lathicharge to control the crowd. After this, the protesters continued to remain obscure from a distance.
